X can have a causal relation with Y, while conceptually changing the value of X doesn’t change the value of Y

| Can you provide an example of this in comments, or possibly even a statement? I don't see how a causal relation between X and Y can exist and their "values" can't impact one another, without possibly resorting not pointing to "X", but attributes of X.
